John writes:

I looked at the idea of the influence of the bookmark as the starting point of a journey – a journey of discovery for the recipient of each bookmark.

Bookmarks were placed inside the Middle East sections of travel guides such as Lonely Planet and Rough Guide at W H Smith, Waterstones and other book retailers as well as the guides in the local libraries.

I composed the theme ’Broaden Your Horizons’ to help instill a challenge for the curious reader to discover the world of al-Mutanabbi Street that would give a new dimension to their journey.
